DevCongress June 2019 - A Productive workflow: The Ins
Well, dev Congress just took place yesterday. I know I always tell you about what happens after the event takes place. I never announce to you when it takes place in advance. I will correct that.
I always encourage my people to try as much as possible to attend conferences and seminars like DevCongress. No matter what happens there is always three things you will learn at least:
1- Meet new people
2- Feel the aura of the community
2- Refreshing your mood as a developer
Software development is a taugh task and one can feel lonely by doing it. It's always amazing to go out from time to time to talk to others and come back with new inspirations.
DevCongress is actually one of the strongest glues in Ghana that keeps developers connected. And through the organization many developers found jobs and companies continue to get exposed. That was the case of Paystack and ePayGh. They got to introduce their solutions to the community. In addition, Paystack announced their arrival in the Ghanaian market.
Efficient digital payment solutions have been a challenge in the African market for quite a while now. And that has always been the headache of software developers. Solutions like Paystack and ePayGh leverage that load.
Stefan Froelich also introduced a new cool, simple, yet very useful, app called fayapay. More is coming on this exciting app...
The first talk was given by Khophi. He spoke about improving productivity with Firebase. He explained Role-based management with Firebase using Custom Claims, Cloud Functions, and the Firebase Admin SDK. I have to say that through this talk I got the guts to go and look Firebase with much attention.
Well, more parallel talks took place including the fact that new developers find it difficult to follow up on discussions, and they seem to be timid in the slack group. Stefan Froelich and Andrew Smith made them understand that there's no stupid question. Everyone needs to look for answers for anything we want to learn.
And this has always been my concern in the communities of software developers. It's always challenging to find your way out. New developers need to know that it's a normal thing. You to touch many things to realize what is the actual thing you want to learn. In addition, they need to understand that most advanced developers are always busy, and hence they usually don't have enough time. So, with that, it becomes hard to get them to take time on some things they find too basic. Acquaint yourself with google a bit. Try searching for solutions for your changes. If you don't get any satisfactory results, then ask real developers with your challenges well explained.
How about the crowd??
Yes, this is my favorite part. The truth is, the room could not even contain us all... Nonetheless, have a look at this:
Khophi has also curated a cooler album for the event here.
Bottom note
Like I said in my previous report, it's important we start to realize that software development is an opportunity, if not the last opportunity, for us Africans to excel in this fast growing world. It's time that everyone understands as well that, you are responsible for your skills growth. Get to work. Code, code, and continue to code. That's all it takes to get up there.
And..
Hmm very refreshing to meet other #developers @DevCongress @KiddBubu @edemkumodzi @faddai @silentworks @nkansahrexford pic.twitter.com/lkUDyTrXDL
