Facebook's new video chat app Riff is out
Facebook is still trying to copy Snapchat's continued achievement by creating a new video app called Riff.
The video app Riff is the newest standalone created by Facebook's Creative Labs division which is the experiment apps department that has a track record of cranking out falls ranging from Snapchat replica Slingshot to other apps that have failed to take off, such as Paper, Rooms, and Groups.
With this new video app, Facebook has created a mixture of Snapchat and Vine that allows its users to record videos up to 20 seconds in length. These 20-second videos are then shared and expanded upon collaboratively by your friends which eventually create a viral video. Each video starts with just one person who selects a unifying topic such as #FineArt or #BestDancer that can build upon.
Facebook hopes your friends will then see the video snippet and choose to join in the fun and turn it into a series of clips that can develop into something else and also create trending tropics just like Vine according to The Verge.
Facebook has removed the ability to comment directly on Riff videos from within the app to encourage people to contribute their own video to a friend's Riff, though the video app can be posted to Facebook where comments can take place.
You can download Riff starting today for both iOS and Android. Hope this facebook new app will make you forget Snapchat.
EDIT: Currently facebook removed this application from the App Store and google play. The project behind these applications was also shut down. Read more
